By adopting a science-based approach, the country can strengthen its food safety system, prevent risks early, and better protect public health. Speaking in a message in Conjunction with World Food Safety Day, the Deputy Minister of Finance stressed that with technological advancements, increased global travel, and the rapid development of international trade, the country's food system is now more interconnected and complex than ever.
Pengiran Datin Seri Paduka Hajah Zety Sufina binti Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Sani, as Chairman of the Brunei Darussalam Food Authority, BDFA Board of Directors, explained that the situation demands that food safety continues to be a priority at every step, from the cultivation, production, and importation of food, to the preparation and consumption of food. This is a shared responsibility that extends the entire food chain, including farmers, food producers, importers, distributors, food handlers, to consumers at home, with simple practices such as maintaining proper hand hygiene, preparing food safely, correct storage, and checking food labels can have a real and lasting impact on food safety.
BDFA remains committed to continuously enhancing food safety control measures and fostering collaboration across sectors, while ensuring alignment with international standards. This includes promoting awareness and education among food businesses and consumers, as well as supporting the food industry in building the knowledge, skills, and capacity needed to meet food safety standards. With the theme "From burden to solutions – safe food everywhere", it emphasised that solutions can be achieved through collective action, scientific innovation and technology, and strong food regulatory systems.
